| Recently I've heard alot in the news and generally around about a new craze called flash mobbing, what's this? I hear you ask, scratching your heads and biting your nails. I know it sounds like mob of people flashing themselves to the innocent public and frightening small children... but thankfully (or unfortunately as the case may be) it's not. Flash mob- n. A large group of people who gather in a usually predetermined location, perform some brief action then quickly disperse. The general idea is that the messages announcing the latest flash mob in the area are sent as quickly as possible via text or e-mail, with the recipients passing the messages on. The receivers aren't told what the event will involve until they arrive there to avoid trouble with police etc. The people are then told by paticular people what to do (pref something random) and the event is timed, at the end everyone disperses as quickly as possible. I did a little bit or research on the web and it's thought that flashmobbing started in New York and it's now spreading across Europe. Some examples of previous events are~ 1.200 people descended on a furniture store in Tottenham court road in London, they were told to admire the furniture and then leave. 2.In Birmingham mobbers met outside an Oxfam shop, they sang the Red Hot Chili peppers and then left leaving donations of money and clothes 3.A group of people in Rome met in a book shop and all asked the assistants for books which didn't exist 4.In a Toys R' Us in NY people pretended to worship a giant Dinosaur robot that was on display and then lay rolling around on the floor when it started to roar. 5.In London people circled the London eye whilst eating bananas and worshipping the 'great eye'. | Hmmm.... Many people think it's a craze that will die out once the warmer weather's gone, but it's pretty funny all the same, if anyone has any flashmobbing stories?? I'd be pleased to put them up. |
