The East High wrestling team is looking to make their mark in the conference this season. With eleven returning letter winners and two state tournament veterans, Coach Steve Knipp and the Trojans are looking to bring a few points their way.

The wrestling season started on December 2 at home against Waverly-Shell Rock. Although the Trojans did not leave victorious, they did show promise for the rest of the season.

"We had some kids who were up a weight, so we didn't wrestle as well as we should have," said Knipp.

Knipp is looking forward to his varisty team doing well this season. "We have plenty of kids who should win between eight and twenty meets."

This year's varsity team consists of returning lettermen Grant Hickok, Justin Trueg, Scott Trueg, Anthony Watson, Eufonda Hayes, Ryan Sallis, Rodney Ceasar, Bryan Vaughn, Bryan Curran, Johnny Galloway, Jr., and Tom Schmitz. Ryan Finger, Steve Arceneaux, and Eric Reed also compete at the varsity level.

Last season, Galloway and Watson wrestled in the state tournament and did very well. Knipp hopes to see more members of his team to go to state this year.

"We're a young team. Hopefully, we can fill a few gaps that we need to be successful in dual meets," commented Knipp.
