EVERYTHING HURTS

by Vanesa Littlecrow

You took it too personally
when I sold you a fantasy;
a dream that never existed.
But, that is my job and gift.
You admired the product
and fell for the packaging,
but you didn't want to see
the substance deep inside
for what it really was.
I trusted you with secrets
inside the pretty little box.
You could watch and enjoy them,
but you weren't meant to touch.
Oh poor spurned man so scorned
You crushed and killed the gift
when you learned the sweet gift
you held was never meant for you.
Life is unfair everything hurts.
But, I'll live despite the pain.
In the arms of my two lovers,
God and the one that he sent me.
They will take what you destroyed
and make me rise once again.
Even if I didn't have the angel,
my God has always made it right
and he's always cared for me.
Tell me that I have to change
my holier-than-thou ways that
you once found so endearing,
when they don't go your way.
I never asked for you to change,
I just asked you to let me be.
But, you didn't let me be
and neither of us would change,
so you lashed at me with fury
and tried to break me in two.
You proclaimed in the mountains
and to the world that I am a whore,
a liar and a hypocrite so cruel,
because I have tasted the sweetest
life nectar from my Angel's loins
and I inscribed with a rainbow
palette upon a canvas with words.
Well, if I am a whore, a liar
and a hypocrite, for loving
my beloved and one and only angel
and proclaiming it from the
highest hills and feeling no shame
for being his betrothed nubila,
then so be it my crushed friend.
I would rather be the whore,
the liar and the hypocrite
of my bridegroom gift from God,
than to deceive the jealous fool
who was only interested in the package
and never was able to appreciate
the substance of me inside.
Not the forbidden secrets of me,
but the stuff that makes of me.
Life is unfair, but it goes on.
