Question:
Hello,
I am forced to maintain a Oracle server, although I know close to
nothing about DBA field. We run out of space in the datafiles for a
large table that we have, and I added a datafile for this table to
keep
the production process running.
I noticed that we have a huge datafile for an unused tablespace, and
we
may need to use that diskspace for something else. I've dropped the
unused tablespace (including contents) thinking that oracle would delete
the related datafile from disk, but it didn't happen. Can I just go
ahead and physically delete the datafile from the disk??
We use Oracle 8.0.3 on Solaris 7.
Answer 1:
If the tablepsace has been dropped, you can remove the datafile

Answer 2:
Oracle doesn't delete datafiles, you need to do that manually.
No criticism: I don't envy you and if this is your firm's policy, that
is
dangerous. But you probably are aware of that.
