Performance raw vs. file

Does anyone have any numbers that they can share regarding the perfomance
increases of raw vs file.  I've found that on EMC and other disk farms, raw
makes no difference.

However, now I'm working on IBM SSA devices. I want to know if the difference
is significant without spending a lot of time measuring, calculating,
formatting numbers...

Typically, with todays high speed i/o subsystems, one sees about a %5 - %12 increase with raw devices files. It used to be Oracle stated increases of %10 - %15 until faster and cheaper memory and disk drives became readily available.

If you chose to use raw devices, using them on just control files and redo logs.
