Why getting error message 'Failed to authenticate user'?

I am trying to start a job using Oracle Enterprise Manager (on NT), but I
still get the error 'Failed to authenticate user'. This is what I've done
thusfar :

- Created a user via the NT user management (as a local admin on a PDC;
'password never expires')
- Added 'log on as a batch job' to this user

- Added this same user to the database I want to backup
- Granted SYSDBA system privileges + DBA role + RESOURCES role to this user

- Set up 'prefered credentials' using userid/password (same as the NT user)

I have no clue what could still be wrong. Does anyone have any suggestions ?

The above was tested on Windows NT 4 + SP3 (no hotfixes) and Oracle 8.0.5. The
database being backupped was a default database, using no archiving, and no
recovery catalog.

Which user started the Agent on the NT?  Make sure your Agent is started by
system.
