What
is the differance between Enterprise Edition and Server Edition?
I am about to purchase a Sun E450 to run
an Oracle 8 Server database. For this non-Enterprise Edition (workgroup)
version of O8, is there a relationship between the number of processors
in the server and the number of licenses I need? I get mixed signals
from Oracle documentation. Some information indicates that platforms
are priced "single processor" and other docs show "up to 4 CPUs (for the
E450)".
I'm planning on dual SPARCs and I don't want
any licensing surprises or hassles later. Anyone know the answer?
Ans:
The Enterprise edition is licenced minimum
of 8 concurrent devices per processor, whilst the Server edition is licenced
minimum of 5 concurrent devices.
Note that there is no per processor restriction
in the Server edition. Also note this information was taken from the Oracle
UK Price List.
As with most software purchases, if you don't
like the price negotiate until you do !
