Welcome
Welcome to the world of Oracle backup and recovery. This site includes the conceptual and task-oriented information the DBA will need in order to:
Understand what backup and recovery is and how it works.
Perform backup, restore, and recovery procedures using operating system (O/S) commands as well as using RMAN (Recovery Manager).
This is a site created by an Oracle DBA for all other Oracle DBA's confronted with the trying and stressful task of devising backup strategies and recovering databases.
I have tried to document all the most common disaster recovery scenarios that a DBA is likely to encounter in his career. While one hopes that these scenarios are rarely encountered, I cannot stress the importance of both planning as well as regularly testing database disaster recovery.
I am an Oracle Certified Professional working for one of the largest airlines in the Middle East,Emirates Airline, based  in Dubai. I have 6 years experience as an Oracle DBA working on Sun Solaris, AIX and Windows NT platforms.
