Nestling in a loop of the Tiber, the area known in Ancient Roman times as the Campus Martius, or 'Field of Mars', was once an uninhabited plain mainly used for military practice. Now it teems with beautiful fountains, piazzas and ancient ruins, many of which have become world-famous symbols of the city's glorious past. Our entertaining tour brings the history of these sights to life and explains how they fit into the rich tapestry which is the Eternal City.

Beginning at the archaeological site of Torre Argentina, we take an early evening stroll through this must-see part of the city. Making our way through the historic centre we visit sites including:
> Piazza Venezia
>  the infamous 'wedding cake' monument
> Palazzo Venezia
> Piazza & Church Ss. Apostoli
> The Trevi Fountain
BREAK (for coin throwing and ice cream or wine)
> Piazza di Spagna
> Column of the Immaculate Conception
> Spanish steps
> Via Condotti
> Piazza Montecitorio
> Column of Marcus Aurelius
> Temple of Hadrian
> Pantheon
> Palazzo Madama
> Piazza Navona.
We end the tour by Bernini's masterpiece, the Fountain of the Four Rivers in Piazza Navona, an ideal location for dinner, ice cream or even a relaxing glass of wine!
