Questcore Pharmacuticals Raises Acthar by 1000%

Questcor increased the price for Acthar and we are being charged $24,500 a vial. We were Paying $2000. They will not ship out Madalin's medicine (two months, $49,000) until the insurance says they will pay.  Our copays are 10% even if the insurance does pay.

Quescore is the only company that maufactures this drug. They bought the rights to it in 2001, the year our daughter developed Opsoclonus-Myoclonus Syndrome (OMS). The first year we were able to get it free of charge through the National Organization for Rare Disorders. Once they began manufacturing it, we started paying very high costs for a drug our daughter has to have to function. It was hard to pay before; but, now, many insurance companies are going to refuse and many children will suffer. We are waiting to find out if our's will pay. If not, Madalin will relapse.

Madalin will likely have the following symptoms:

Loss of balance, loss of the ability to walk, sever tremors, loss of speech, vision disturbances including her eyes rapidly darting back and forth uncontrollably, loss of Iq points, and long-term brain damage.

This is an outrage to all of the families who depend on this drug to keep our kids from suffering needlessly.

This is complety about profit. They claim it is for research purposes and future availability of the drug but it is about profit. The programs they claim to help the families will not benefit the average family.

Questcor's Side
Questcore states the increases is insignificant and that 90% of insurance companies are paying for it. What about the other 10% Questcor? Are you going to ensure none slip through the cracks?
I tried to get help paying the copays before but because we have insurance, there is not help available. Who can afford this and how long do you think it is going to be before we reach our lifetime cap and the insurance no longer pays for ANYTHING?

They state that their plan is working, they of course, are happy! They have not considered the impact this will have on all of the families that use this drug. Let's see, food, clothes, shelter or brain damage.....hmmmmmm
