HOSPITAL PROFESSIONALS MOBILIZING

As you know, bargaining for a new central agreemant begins January 30. In preparation for this round of bargaining the Hospital Professionals Division established a mobilization committee that is responsible for developing a mobilization plan to:

1. support the efforts of the bargaining team at the table
2. raise the profile of health care professionals across the province

This committee consists of Jan O'Leary, Mary Sue Smith and Pat Collyer, with Aimee Axler as liason to the bargaining team. The committee is being assisted by Barb Linds and David Cox.

  • A mobilizing plan (for all locals, not only those in central) was launched at the HPD Divisional meeting in November and followed up at the December final demand set with some preliminary media training.

  • Mobilizing/media training workshops are being held in Hamilton and Toronto over the next two weeks. Barb is available to attend other mobilization planning meetings upon request of locals requesting assistance.

  • Newspaper ads will be published in daily and community papers across the province beginning January 25 and January 30.

  • Issue #3 of the bargaining bulletin is ready to be sent out. Ten copies are being sent to each steward, and it will be posted on the web page.

  • Members of the HPD Executive are in the process of contacting each local president to share information as well as update locals on plans. Locals are being asked to:
    1.schedule a membership meeting during the week of January 21
    2.plan a lunchtime rally outside their hospital on January 30
    3.schedule a meeting for their executive with the CEO or labour management to reinforce their support for the central team
    4.distribute " Public, Professional and Proud" buttons to their membership
    5.plan one activity during the month of February to raise the profile of our members and the important work they do around Heart and Stroke month

    The mobilizing committee will be planning other initiatives over the next two months. Locals needing mobilizing advice or assistance with press releases or media relations can get in touch with Barb or David.
