Waiting

I can write nothing until I know.

                Tomorrow

                I know I can wait.

It's only tonight.

Darkness seems to stretch out time.

I feel not the minutes----

But seconds.

The clock ticks them off slowly.

                But it's only

                Tonight.

Tomorrow, the sun reminds me

That there are others:

                My friends,

                My neighbors.

Then, they keep my time.

I can write nothing tonight.

Perhaps you will not

Want to know.

It's that I need to know.

Oh, come tomorrow,

So many tomorrows,

                And still

                I do not know.

But tonight I know,

In my silent nights,

                I know.

Tomorrow I must wait.

                It's only

                Tomorrow.
