MASTERING THE PIANO can be yours pleasure, too!
Though, you see: it's exciting only for those who
really
know - HOW it should be realized!

For many decades...
The
practice of the piano
was built on the truly false theoretical base, which fundamental
knowledge
has been grounded on nearly mechanical principles.
FORTUNATELY - despite this fact in the piano
pedagogic history one could found many brilliant
teachers who have taught just intuitively,
still - excellently!
UNFORTUNATELY - for theirs students - only
few of them have truly adequately understood the very nature of mechanisms
that factually control the artistic musical interpretation
and, as well - that direct the process of practicing and
learning the music as a whole.
"Comparisons are odious" - that is the truth. But, personally seen,
I can say,
I know the two teachers only, whose theory and practice (even if known
from the books solely) could give the real answer on such a question:
WHAT
DOES IT PRACTICALLY MEAN -
"to
handle the technique of the piano in the truly efficient way?"
They were -
Frederic
F.CHOPIN (1810-1849) and
Harry G.NEUHAUS (1888 - 1964)
Let us have a look at some of
their ideas!
1/
Because, unfortunately, there is only the ONE SHARE of energy in the
particular human being - the pianists ought to economize their physical
power.
2/ The three most important questions of the piano technical schooling
doubtlessly are:
a) how is possible to detect such details in playing that operationally are
truly important?
b) how is possible to process them efficiently?
c) HOW exactly looks the OBJECT one must strongly control trying to find the
technically most effective solution in one's personal search for the TOUCH of
the top quality?
3/ In Chopin's personal opinion, presented in his famous "Sketch for a
method" (Projet de méthode), he has written very clearly,
"In the whole sound's universe one should find such dynamic zone, the
vibrations of it could be most easily checkable."
The practical meaning of this sentence is of the key importance for the whole
piano technical schooling -
it defines the active control of the sound's quality (strength & color)
as the main INSTRUMENT that DETERMINES
the whole technical developing in the piano.
The touché of Chopin's mode really means a great deal more than only a
special kind of contact with a keyboard:
it thoroughly assists the operational part of creating the artistic idea in
the whole piano playing.
4/ The most effective, Prof. H. Neuhaus' piano schooling system was totally
based on the great Chopin's piano pedagogic idea.
S. Richter and E. Gilels were, among others, the students of Prof. Neuhaus in
'The P. Tchaikovsky Conservatory of Music' in Moscow.
V. Horowitz personally said, that after F. Blumenfeld (who was his first and
last the really serious piano teacher) factually H. Neuhaus was the man, whom
he was especially grateful for the essential artistic support.
