   Night Attacks

Players have the option of declaring a potential battle as being a Night Attack.  This is noted by writing

“Night Attack” in the Notes Section of the DSU’s Orders Form. Since a sector can be the location of a battle

only once per game day, all RCUs must be considered involved in the night attack…if an additional DSU is

plotted into the sector, it must also be noted as a night attack, since normal movement and battle will take

place, and any RSUs plotted for a night attack will not join in. Put simply, a night attack can occur only if a

day attack dorsn’t occur in the sector first! The Initiative Rules come into play here…a DSU plotted for a

night attack may find itself attacked instead, and the night attack scrubbed. Night attacks occur only

after all normal movement and battles occur. Plotting a night attack can be risky, and it takes a little

luck to pull it off.

   Starshells will not be used.

   Retreats, Additional Notes

A DSU always retreats one sector to an adjacent, friendly sector. If the sector behind the retreating DSU

already has 2 DSUs present, it will go in another direction. If its only possible retreat creates an overstacked

sector, then it continues retreating until stacking is correct…if such a move is not possible, it will retreat as far as it can, and then be eliminated. Every time a retreating DSU continues retreating through such overstacked

sectors, then the 2 DSUs present in the sector must immediately make morale checks for their RSUs, with

applicable modifiers.

    Isolation

Each sector is 100 square kms, which translates into a 40x40 scenario map. Be aware that this is a bit of

an abstraction, and when a DSUs HQs, attachments and RES units are offmap, they are considered to be

somewhere between the active sector and the adjacent sector. When a DSU is in a friendly sector, and there are no adjacent sectors that are friendly, then this DSU is Isolated. Isolated units can receive no supply, replacements, etc….they are cut off…nor can they retreat if required to do so, it immediately surrenders.  A DSU must be able to trace a supply line to the friendly depot in order to not be isolated, or to a friendly map edge…thus several friendly sectors that are adjacent may be isolated if such lines can’t be traced.

The worst situation a DSU can find itself in is to be isolated and attacked from opposing directions…in this case, all units of the DSU must set up in the middle of the map with any shattered RSUs “fixed” in place. If the DSU is required to retreat after battle, it instead surrenders entirely.

   Supply Depot

Each side will start with a Supply Depot (SD). This is not represented by any sort of physical unit, but is secretly noted at the beginning of the campaign as being in a particular sector.

The SD represents a great number of things, mostly the central distribution point for the entire front.

In order to be active and normally supplying units, the SD must be non-moving and able to trace a line of friendly sectors to a friendly map-edge.

The closer a DSU is to the SD, the more likely supplies can be distributed in a timely manner…thus, units draw penalties for being too far away.

Units which are away 5 sectors or less from the DSU are normal.

Units which are 6-8 sectors away suffer a -1 to both normal morale and REMO.

Units which are 9+ sectors away suffer -2.

Units which are isolated suffer -3.

At some point, the OAC may decide to move the SD. This is noted as a special order attached to the Orders Form. The SD can then be set upin any friendly hex, but it takes 2 days after movement to function normally again. For example, if a SD moves on Jan 12, it will not function until Jan 14. During this time all units will suffer an additional -1 to the above modifiers, with the exception of isolated units, which always suffer -3.

If the sector the SD occupies is attacked, it continues to function normally unless a retreat occurs that changes to the sector to the enemy side…in which case, the SD moves normally as part of the retreat and can move to any friendly sector it can trace a line to.

If an unguarded SD is attacked, or is surrounded and captured, really awful things happen…do not let this happen!!!!
