Opion Somnium
Sewing Feathers in the Flesh
Zenapolae

While a lot of dark ambient
producers reach the genre
via industrial music,
Somnium claims a
contemporary classical
background, and hip-hop
soundscapes from the likes
of
cLOUDDEAD inspire
him. The result, however, is the same on
Sewing Feathers as on something from Soleilmoon: long minor chords, oscillations like the matter sucking of a black hole, moaning and chain-rattling from the undead etc. No beats save for "Asleep on Ashes," and nothing that suggests transitions from track to track except the digital display of your CD player. If you think this kind of sinister ambience is best left for screenings of silent horror films like Nosferatu, this disc won't change your mind. But even goths need betime music, and Sewing Feathers would help induce the nightmares thye're longing for.
