VIDEOGAME VIOLENCE
Found out this is another one of those sites that doesn't like "bad" language, so I am going to go through and omit the words that they may consider inappropriate ---I will mark the words that I have changed with an asterisk(*).

I would spend a little time speaking to you on this topic. Part of this ties into the age discrimination and Language category too.
First off, I don't fully believe in the rating system. They should've only made it as a guide, but it is law. And if our government knew their stuff, they would've known they are discriminating against people who are under the age of 17. Sure they may use the excuse, "Well you are not an adult yet."  How are they to know if a kid is an adult, they are going by how long we have lived, not how mature we have become.
Us teens who are under the age of 17 can't buy videogames that are mature. They group us into people that can't handle violence or mature sexual themes. I had my first mature videogame before the age of 11, and I turned out fine. I didn't go out and murder people. I didn't try to imitate actions that happened in the videogame, because I was smart enough to know the difference. Most people know the difference between reality a lot younger than 17. Most people that don't know the difference are mentally unstable, and their actions can't be blamed on videogames. If by the age of 13 you don't know the difference between reality and fiction, you should be declared mentally unstable!  And one of the reasons these kids imitate actions in the videogames or off of T.V., is because they don't have good parents to teach them between right and wrong. By the age of 13, everyone should know not to go out and kill people on purpose, or to harass, or to do something that could hurt them or others. So that tells me that they should be allowed to handle a Mature game. And what about what the parents think? They don't want there kids to hear "bad" language, or "dirty" language. They don't want THEIR kids to see anything sexual, or violent.  They want to OWN you.  Just to go off topic for a bit here, ONE THINGS PARENTS DON'T REALIZE IS THAT EVERYONE IS A LIVING BREATHING HUMAN BEING, WITH A MIND OF THEIR OWN.  JUST BECAUSE YOU GAVE BIRTH TO US DOES NOT MEAN THAT YOU OWN US. AND ONE OTHER THING, A PARENT MAY SAY THAT THEY CARE FOR YOU, BUT THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CARING AND CONTROLLING.  STOPPING A KID FROM PLAYING A VIOLENT VIDEOGAME IS NOT THE SAME AS NOT WANTING THEM TO DO DRUGS, ALCOHOL; OR NOT WANTING THEM TO FALL, OR TO GET HURT.  I just felt like putting that in all caps, just to get the point across : ).
I got news for the parents, there is nothing they can do to stop kids from hearing "bad" words, or "bad" things. Unless they want to home school them and hide them from society. A lot of young kids, around the age of 10, know a lot of the words that society considers bad. It is just the parents fall under the power of society, and tell there kids that they are wrong. Good parents tell you something like "stand up for what you believe in". Well, I believe that society is completly wrong, and needs to grow up. I believe sometimes I am more mature than society. What if I were to say, once you hit 60 years old, you are not allowed to drive anymore. A lot of people would say that is crap*, because if you are 60, you still may be able to see well enough to drive. That is where my point is coming from, while society would say something like "you are too old to drive, and you can't see well" That is almost exactly what is happening to people under the age of 18, whether it is w/ videogames or television. Some are more mature than others, some learn faster than others. Just because we are not 17, doesn't mean that we can't handle what 17 year olds can. Some people are older than 17, and they still can't handle certain things. If the Mature rating was just an advisory, I wouldn't mind. But when someone tries to stop me from purchasing something just because I am not old enough, they are insulting me. They are telling me "you are not mature enough to handle this content" And I get pissed. If I get time I will put a story down on this site about what happened with me and a walmart employee, trying to stop me from purchasing a Mature videogame. If you have read all this, you have an idea of what I feel like. I could type forever on this topic, but you are probably tired of reading. If you believe in this, or halfway agree, please tell a person, or give them this site. Help spread the word around! Thank you for reading.  Comments?  Ideas?  Send an email to [email protected]. Note:  If you don't agree with what I have to say, and you can present your arguement without being angry, I won't mind reading and responding to your email. But any type of flaming (anger/hatred emails) I will ignore and delete.
