| WHEN WILL WE EVER LEARN? |
| THERE IS NEVER AN EXCUSE FOR VIOLENCE! ! ! ! Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. knew about the people of the world. He tried to teach us that violence works against us. By leading peaceful and lawful protests, the world started to change their centuries-old views. Thousands of White people joined hand in hand with their Black brothers and sisters to make changes for the betterment of the United States. He showed us that rioting and violence turns the world against whatever the cause is. We apparently did not learn very well! ! ! When Rodney King was beaten, the whole world was angry. When the police officers got off, the whole world was angry. When a few thousand punks went on a rampage, the world forgot about Rodney. They turned their anger onto looting and wanton destruction of innocent peoples property, and the attempted murder of innocent people. The millions of black people who were not rioting were forever stained because of it. During the 60s the demonstrations against the Vietnam War were watched by the world. It was overshadowed by draft dodgers burning their draft cards and running to Canada or England. (Bill Clinton) It was overshadowed by the drug scene, but peaceful persistence won out over big business and finally we came home. At Wounded Knee, South Dakota the sympathy was for the Indian plight. Violence ensued and they were seen as savages and terrorists. In Poland, Lech Walesa was considered a world hero because he brought about radical change without using violence. His government was forced to give in to Solidarity, because they knew that if they used violence to stop the movement, the world would turn against them. In China the world is still outraged at the Chinese government because of Tiananmen Square. In the United States, people discussing and rethinking their opinions about Roe vs. Wade. Then the bombings, assaults and murders. Now most people wont even discuss the issues because of the violence perpetrated in the name of change. In Seattle the World Trade Organizations met to reach agreements that were deemed to be a threat to jobs, the environment etc.. Thousands arrived to let people know of their protests. A few hundred started a riot. Then the world turned to the W. T. O. and said Sign anything! Show these violent people that they will not be listened to! In Cincinnati, a police officer is under suspicion for the death of an unarmed youth. The world was appalled that such a thing could be allowed to happen again. A few hundred punks again used this is an excuse to steal and destroy innocent peoples property. These few fools have taken the public views and turned them negatively on the millions of innocent blacks all over the country. We never learn. We have to stop these few punks ourselves before they destroy us all. In Canada the protesters of the W.T.O. again turned violent and again the world is turned from the legitimate problems that need to be addressed by W.T.O. and are focused on the violence. We havent learned anything. JBS |
