STAATHAAT
12"

After having lived in the UK for 4 years, I moved to Amsterdam in 2005. Soon after I joined some of my best friends, who till then had played together in the recently broken up KRIEGSTANZ - and two of whom I had done ORWELL NATION with some years before - to form STAATHAAT. Inspiration a plenty in the ever increasingly right wing Netherlands and so we had enough songs to do an lp soon after. Being a sucker for "complete control" (both the songs and the DIY principle! ;) ), I decided to put this out myself - and with all the continuous hard work and many hours put into screenprinting the covers and lyricsheets ourselves it's been a total labour of love. The end result looks amazing though, so it totally pays off of as far as I am concerned, and the included writing hopefully gives those who do not speak Dutch, the language in which all the lyrics are written, a clear idea where we're coming from.
The lp came out in the summer of 2007, by which time I had already moved back to the UK. I had not planned to return here and the decision was made quite abruptly due to personal circumstances, but testament to the fact this band was more than just a bunch of people making some noise, we kept STAATHAAT going for a while longer and managed to do two more tours; one that took us through Belgium, France and Spain, one through the UK & Ireland.

Reviews
"This Dutch lot blew me away when they played in Edinburgh recently, and this record does not disappoint. For the most part, they play breath-takingly bleak doom, on the crust rather than the metal side of things, so think more along the lines of Dystopia or Corrupted- slow, tortuous crawls, but they mix things up with some faster parts with blast beats but retaining the heavy sound, which takes it into His Hero Is Gone territory. Comes in really nice DIY packaging- thick black card with gold print. Lyrics are in Dutch, with an essay in English explaining the concept of the record (briefly, using the Dutch East India company as a metaphor for Dutch society today, the scapegoating of immigrants and the importance of preserving the punk scene as a bastion of independent, free thought). Crushing & thoughtful, highly recommended. - Capitol Punishment"

"Finaly here, the debut by one of Holland's finest. Loads of ex-members in this band but it's basicaly 3/4 of Kriegstanz with a new singer. It's crusty, it's dark and at times very slow. As to be expected from these guys the lyricsheet offers something to read and think about. This is punk. - Graanrepubliek"

"Staathaat's beautifully presented first release combines the intensely negative vibes of Dystopia, the crushing black-hole heaviness of Corrupted and the raging hardcore attack of His Hero Is Gone, so while all this means you're probably not going to find anything exactly new here, the list of influences is so completely unfuckwithable it hardly matters! Staathaat are truly hardcore, with unpredictable and exciting shifts in tempo, heavy yet catchy riffs and totally deathly roars. I like my music either very slow or very fast, and Staathaat do the former most of the time, so base your purchase on that more than anything else. Rest assured though, they do both very well - Collective Zine"

"Staathaat (Dutch for hate the state) is a new Dutch band with members of Seein' Red, Kriegstanz, Orwell Nation, Cathode and Betercore. They mix up slow, apocalyptic sludge with eruptions into face shredding fast parts. Think Corrupted, Dystopia, Face Down In Shit, His Hero Is Gone. Smart, passionate hardcore punk as it should be. - GGFI"

"STAATHAAT is a new Dutch band with members of SEEIN RED, KRIEGSTANZ, ORWELL NATION, CATHODE and BETERCORE, they combine slow apocalyptic Sludge like CORRUPTED, HELLHAMMER, COFFINS with fast crusty Hardcore outbursts) - Civilization Records"

- Twisted Chords"
