LOS ASESINOS DE LA SUPERFICIALIDAD / TEMPERS RISE - split LPThe demise of Office Killer in '99, gave birth to two more amazing bands; Shikari and Los Asesinos De La Superficialidad. Where the first has a sound more reminiscent of Uranus and Orchid, the latter takes most of its musical inspiration from the early 90s "emo" scene. Think Assfactor 4, Econochrist or any of Mike Kirschs' bands. One of the most amazing bands to come out of the Dutch punk community in quite some time, Los Asesinos De La Superficialidad combines this with intelligent anarchist lyrics & politics. I have been amazed by this band ever since I saw them play for the first time and I did not need to think long when I was asked to help out with releasing this. Tempers Rise played a couple of gigs together with my old band Orwell Nation and they were always memorable in one way or another. As with L.A.D.L.S., I had known some of them for years. Among others due to their involvement in bands like Feeding The Fire, Soberesponse & Betercore. Tempers Rise sounded nothing like any of the above though. They did some amazing, emotional & harsh 'emo-violence', often getting compared to Honeywell or a more chaotic Born Against, instead and of such quality that this wouldn't have been out of place on Gravity records back in its' heyday at all... This release is done in loving cooperation with de Graanrepubliek, Wasted Youth Power and Coalition records, all of which are run by amazing people. MP3sManifesto 2Us Liars ReviewsAndy Malcolm - Collective Zine: "This is such a good release from a pair of European hardcore bands that have strayed from the norm to produce 2 sides of relentlessness (is that a word?). LADS kick of the affairs (well, they do when I choose to play the record) with a dischordant set of 7 tracks that quite niftily combine elements of Born Against / Assfactor 4 and Mike Kirsch. Pascal's strong vocals are gruffly yelled (if you see him, you'd never think that guy could sound like this) and sometimes he goes into urgent spoken parts that sound great, particularly on the start of "Inexistencia", which is probably the pick of the tracks on here. The guitar and rhythm play off each other to create the rumbling, speedy and rough attack. They have both personal and politically oriented lyrics that are well worth your time. LADS is emo the way it oughta be! Tempers Rise rock the other side in a quite different fashion. Their brand of chaotic hardcore is laced with feedback and harshness, bringing to the table elements of stuff like Honeywell, but less brutal. There are virtually no gaps between songs which works great, there is no pausing for breathe at all. The recording is kind of thin which takes away some of the power that I am sure the band have live, but still. This is some noisy, and makes a mockery of the trendy fashion parade that so much 'screamo' has become since the Witching Hour hay day. This is a totally DIY release that anyone into emotive hardcore should support. Great stuff. Both bands 7" releases are worth checking too. Get to it!Release The Bats: "los asesinos de la superficialidad are a band from groningen, the netherlands. they play hardcore in the vein of econochrist, so expect some harsch melodic emotive hardcore!!! tempers rise were a band from amsterdam, the netherlands. they played in a choatic and intense way, some say in the vein of angelhair and born against." React With Protest: "LADLS takes most of it's musical inspiration of the early 90 s "emo" bands, they combine that with intelligent , anarchist lyrics. TR do very emotinal and harsh hardcore that reminds of a more chaotic and noisy Born against meets emo-violence." Throne Records: "Primera referencia de este sello madrileo. Dos bandas que recuperan el sonido de las primeras bandas de Ebullition y Stonhenge (Econochrist, Finger Print, etc.)." Busted Head: "2 x new Dutch band team up for a good and diverse split. LADLS is more rocking in a DC kinda way, very Dischord-isch. Catchy! Tempers Rise is more anger, frustration and good old hardcore destruction. Green Hell: "Split lp mit 2 hollandischen Hardcore-Bands. Tempers Rise bieten eher die chaotische Screamo-Variante (ohne Metal) und knuppeln sich durch ihre Seite als gebe es kein Morgen, Los Asesinos klingen punkiger, rotziger und erinnern mich in den besten Momenten etwas an Black Flag oder Econochrist" Hardcore Holocaust: "A hc pairing from the Netherlands. L.A.D.L.S. is inspired by Econochrist and the early emotional hardcore sound and T.R. are inspired by later Born Against with a chaotic emotional sound" Burn Out: "This is 16 songs of rude mayhem! 2 bands from the Netherlands, swinging the heartache. Simple, nice package. Comparable to Shikari/ Acme. |
