KRIEGSTANZ
7"
...I know that in this day and age of "professional" "punk" labels I am probably supposed to write some clever little bit about how "essential", "powerful", "brutal" or fuck knows it is, just so I can eventually "shift some more records". As I have no interest in any of that shit however, I won't insult you either by following in the footsteps of these stale & predictable labels and their cringe-worthy pseudo-corporate advertising tactics. In truth, I've got no idea what this music, these words and these people mean or will mean to you. I won't pretend I do either therefore. I can however share with you what it means and does to me. To me this band, these songs, these people are truly life-changing, essential, powerful, emotional, heart warming, inspiring and indeed mean the world to me.
The four songs on this record are easily the best stuff Kriegstanz has ever done. I still clench my fists everytime they scream 'may the system - bleed and rot', trying to forget the bullshit racist right wing propaganda I seem to suspected to on a daily basis nowadays. I do the same to the lines 'this is the graveyard of your existence' thinking about all the shit that has happened in recent years in the Netherlands and rest of the world....
The last song however, called 'verst(r)ikt', truly chokes me up and makes shivers force their way down my spine everytime I hear it. It deals with the 'coming out' of one of the band members, who I also consider to be one of my closest friends. That song alone makes me intensely happy & proud to be involved with this record and being able to help out with this, means more to me in fact than most will probably ever truly realize.
So yes, boohoo if this all sounds a bit "emo" to you snobbish kids out there. I honestly could care less. Bands like Kriegstanz are what keep punk alive and actually relevant. Write a thousand pompous songs about wars, death or destruction, safely following the formats laid out to you by the heros you're trying to copy...personally I rather stick with those bands who write & say stuff because they "have" to and actually care about something.
