KRIEGSTANZ
10'
When I decided to move to the UK in 2000 that, among other things, meant the end of Orwell Nation. While Mark continued with Shikari & Grinding Halt and Johan went on to form 'The People Listening, Wonder', Jos (Seein'Red), Edo (the Barnhouse Effect) & Rogier (Betercore), decided to start a new band together. They got together with Thale (Barnhouse Effect) and Nico (Cathode) and formed what was to become KRIEGSTANZ.
I returned to Holland some months later to catch their first gig and was blown away. With members consisting of some of my best friends, who I knew had a no bullshit, no held back, no compromise approach to punk, lyrics and politics I could get behind fully
it was pretty obvious from the start that as soon as plans for a record were mentioned, Id be involved in releasing it.
On the recordings for this 10,they still had two bass guitars, 2 guitars and three people screaming their guts out. Edo left for Berlin a little while after, leaving them one bassist down, but the band continued until 2005 with the general approach and sound staying the same. I managed to catch them live quite a few more times since that 1st gig and they were always great. I have especially fond memories of their 3 day UK tour with the mighty Seeinred as a bunch of us from Brighton, having sorted out their transport, came along for what turned out to be a very memorable and inspiring weekend.
As far as memory serves and bearing in mind mine is especially poor the 10 had only been out a short while by then and so we did our share of folding covers, sorting out sleeves and making sure the free screenprinted KRIEGSTANZ patch was included in every copy. As Kent would later write in his Heartattack review, where would punkbands like this be without the patch after all....
After this 10, KRIEGSTANZ released a split 7 with I SHOT CYRUS from Brazil, followed by a 7 of their own which I once again helped put out. KRIEGSTANZ ended in 2005 after a month long tour with SEEINRED in the USA. Thale, Jos and Rogier continued with STAATHAAT soon after.

Reviews
Profane Existence: "Members of Seein'Red, The Barnhouse Effect & Cathode play a wicked brand of emotion-filled (mostly angry) d-beat punk rock the way it was meant to be
played (rough, raw, and ready to brutalize!). Check this out!!
Heartattack: "Kriegstanz is the new D-beat/crust-punk band that features Jos of Seein'Red and people from Cathode, The Barnhouse Effect, Betercore and Orwell Nation. They hail from the Netherlands. Heavy and brutal yet catchy, with political lyrics. This is a really solid release. Good stuff. I think this band could become pretty popular if they stick around. The 10' comes with a patch that features a gas mask and the words Kriegstanz....very crusty punk! Patches are probably the best marketing tool! Would Aus Rotten or Filth be as popular without the patch?! Ha!! - Kent McClard"
Ape Must Not Kill Ape Records: "great thrashc hardcore in the vein of bands like Tragedy and Wolfbrigade. Really aggressive and catchy at the same time"
Pogonophobia: More crusty powerful hardcore. More Dutch kids. I saw
this band support Seein' Red when they came over earlier this year and
they blew me away, they have catchy bits, brutal bits, basically
everything you could want in a hardcore band! Ex and current members of
Seein Red, Cathode, Orwell Nation and the Barnhouse Effect.
Wasted Sounds: "Furious swecore meats portlandpunx straight out of
Holland! A must have!!"
Busted Head Records: "Debut release from this Dutch band feat. members of Seein' Red. Apocalyptic and fast crustcore that obviously loves Sweden. For fans of Acursed, Martyrdd, Skitsystem etc etc."
The higher they stack...'' und ''Of mice and men'' sind dsterer und fast as fuck und haben beide Killer-Zwischenparts. Astreines Crustbrett. Kommt mit Aufnher fr die Kutte!
What Happens Next tour report: "...KRIEGSTANZ, played the fest and they were what Robert described as "the precise type of band I could listen to and watch all night." They were heavy and loud and powerful and angry and tight and grooving"
