Claire "Somera" Duncan

September 15, 1974 – May 24, 2001

 

Although her life was short, Claire was able to enjoy many great experiences and obtained various achievements that contributed to her community, making her become a strong and well-respected individual.  Those that knew her, often remember Claire for her integrity, friendliness and appreciation for life and its surroundings.  But one thing that will be greatly missed about her is regardless of how difficult a task could be, Claire always managed to wear a beautiful smile on her face, while continuing to strive for excellence.

EDUCATION/WORK HISTORY: 

1992 – 1997:   University of Florida,
                        BS in Chemical Engineering
                        Interned at Vistakon, Johnson & Johnson

 1997 – 2000:   Employed at Vistakon, Johnson & Johnson (in Jacksonville) as engineer in advance technology division, doing R&D (research and development) for third generation contact lenses

 2000 – 2001:   Returned to University of Florida to get PhD in Pharmacy.

·        Completed first year (prior to accident) and volunteered at Shands hospital (Gainesville) in Children’s ward.

·        Began internship at St. Vincent’s hospital, as part of curriculum for College of Pharmacy

 

 PERSONAL HISTORY:

 Summer 1997:  Went backpacking through Europe (with college roommate, Aimee Trier)

 November 1998:  Married Scott Duncan (fellow engineer at Vistakon) at St. Matthew’s   Catholic Church (Jacksonville) 

·        Sang in Sunday choir at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church

·        Resided in Riverside area with husband and their Chocolate Labrador, Jackson

·        Hobbies included going on hiking trips, bike riding, walking, singing, making scrap books, gardening, trying to cook and studying J.
