Ophiuchus

Biography

Ophiuchus was formed in 1986 by guitarist Jon Cousins, and saxophonist Pat D'Arcy. Over the years other members have been: drummer Eddie Grimshaw (Warm Jets), bassist Simon Cousins (OnSet), bassist Xavier Tutein, melodeonist Pete Causer, drummer Myke Vince, percussionist Mike Badger (The Las/OnSet) and dulcimer player Glenn Wardle (Belted Earls).

Produced by Pete Haycock (Climax Blues Band/ELO2), the band's first record was the double A-sided single, 'Serpent and the Bearded King / Song for Pym', the debut release on their own Ophiuchvs Recordvs label in 1987. Their first LP 'Pronounced Offee-ick'Cuss' was released on Liverpool's famous Probe Plus label in 1989.

Often stated to be "the band the Levellers ripped off", the 1987 single 'Serpent and the Bearded King' is regarded as minor classic.
