Part 14
Kaylie trembled against the cold of the tile floor. She was sitting on her bathroom floor in the dark. How pathetic. She kicked the door in frustration and recoiled, wincing at her now throbbing foot. She stood and opened the medicine cabinet, in search of aspirin. She followed hand across the various bottles in the cabinet: nail polish, some cough syrup, antihistamines, that disgusting pink medicine, cold cream, Zoloft, moisturizer, and aspirin. Grabbing the bottle, she grimaced and popped the childproof cap. She filled a cupped hand with water from the sink and swallowed a tablet quickly. Replacing the pill bottle on the shelf, she barely blinked before closing the cabinet door quickly. She barely registered the antidepressant with her name on the prescription label.
see the stone set in your eyes
see the thorn twist in your sighs
Sinking back down to the floor, she curled up into a ball. Her bathroom was quiet and peaceful. The only sound was the air circulating through the room. The only sound she heard was Tamaras voice, echoing in her head.
ill wait for you
Pacey means the world to me. You can understand, cant you, Kaylen? Loving someone so much. Be with Pacey. Please? Just love him for me. Its so easy to love him, Tamara pleaded, her fingernails digging into her daughters arms.
slight of hand and twist of fate
on a bed of nails she makes me wait
Kaylie shuddered and nodded her head emphatically. Anything to make this madness stop. Just agree and send her packing. I will, Mom. I promise.
Youre a little bitch, Kaylen. A lying little bitch. Tamara pushed her backwards and paced around the living room.
and ill wait without you
with or without you
with or without you
Mom? Kaylie looked up at the ceiling and across the room at the pacing woman. Her father was at work, her mother was meeting a friend for lunch.
Im sorry. Tamara threw a disarming smile at Kaylie. I just....I just....I want the best for you.
Okay. Kaylie fled the room after her mom kissed her cheek dismissively.
through the storm we reach the shore
you give it all but i want more
Now here she was, crying on her bathroom floor. How pathetic. The woman was a loon. She was only here for a little while. It was silly to be upset about this. Just stupid. She heard a knock at the front door. Sighing, she lifted herself off the ground again. She opened the bathroom door and raced downstairs. She didnt want Tamara to answer the door.
and im waiting for you
Opening the door she saw no one there. Then, just as she was about to shut the door, she glanced down and saw him. Dawson Leery on his hands and knees, a bouquet of roses between his teeth. If she hadnt been so depressed, she would have laughed. Instead she merely stared, her jaw dropping slightly.
Can I come in? Dawson mumbled, bouquet still in his mouth. Kaylie nodded mutely and stood aside, allowing him to enter. He crawled inside and Kaylie shut the door behind him, still staring wide eyed.
with or without you
with or without you
Kaylie followed him into her living room. He crawled the whole way. She sat primly on the couch and he crawled up to her, dropping the flowers at her feet. She didnt know what to say, and as the silence stretched the room she began to believe this was just a really big acid trip.
Kaylie, Im sorry. Dawson stared up at her, apologetically. He was glad to be on the floor already. She was so beautiful he felt dizzy at the sight of her. She squinted down at him and the corners of her eyes crinkled with barely contained giggles. Before he knew it, she was laughing outright.
Dawson, you-you-you....like a dog, god, whats the matter with you? Kaylie sputtered. Her sides started to hurt she was laughing so hard.
I thought you deserved some groveling. Im begging for your forgiveness, Dawson replied. He was quick to add at a hard look from Kaylie, I know I dont deserve it.
I dont think people ever actually get on their hands and knees when they beg for forgiveness. Kaylie tried to be serious, but failed miserably. The sight of Dawson Leery sprawled awkwardly on her mothers patterned rug, spitting cellophane from the bouquet wrapper out of his mouth, was just too funny. Get up, Dawson.
Dawson rose slowly to his knees. He gazed into her eyes hesitantly. I know it doesnt help. And it certainly doesnt take back what I said, but I really am entirely apologetic for my behavior.
i cant live
with or without you
You do better when youre on your hands and knees, Kaylie observed. I preferred the Im sorry. It was simple, sweet, and to the point. She hadnt felt so good in the last two days. Looking down into Dawsons blue eyes, she smiled softly. She leaned down, placing a trembling hand on his chin, tilting his head up to hers. Then she kissed him. The room silently swayed around the two.
and you give yourself away
Dawson reached up taking her hair in his hands, pulling her down to him. He didnt deepen the kiss, didnt do anything more than accept it. He opened his mouth when her tongue traced his lips lightly, and sighed as she sucked on his tongue gently. He let go when she pulled away, breathless, and allowed her to sit back down on the couch, while he sank further on the floor. He let the ceiling spin around him.
and you give yourself away
Tamara Jacobs observed the two teenagers from the hallway. Kaylie remained on the couch, her fingers gripping the cushions tightly. Dawson sat below her, his knees pulled up to his chest, his eyes cast upward, staring at Kaylie. The roses sat between them, framing them in a Norman Rockwell style tableau.
and you give
and you give
Tamara drummed her manicured fingernails against the wall beside her once and the pair turned towards the sound. Dawsons eyes widened and Kaylies head fell into her waiting hands. Dawson let out a small breath and turned questioning eyes on Kaylie. Tamara smiled and her voice shattered the silence, Mr. Leery! Its good to see you again.
