| The definition of suicide is the act of deliberately taking ones own life. Suicidal behavior is taking any action with potential life threatening consequences, like a drug overdose or purposely crashing a vehicle. More than 90% of all suicides are related to a mood disorder or psychiatric illness. Behaviors can accompany emotional disturbances like depression. Other suicidal behaviors occur as a response to a situation that the person views as overwhelming such as death of a loved one, emotional trauma, serious physical illness, and guilt feelings. Suicide attempts should always be taken seriously and mental health care should be sought immediately. Relatives of people who attempt or complete suicide blame themselves or become extremely angry and see it as a selfish act. Symptoms, as early signs are depression, statements or expressions of guilt feelings, tension or anxiety, nervousness and impulsiveness. Critical signs include sudden change in behavior (like calmness after a period of anxiety), giving away belongings, direct or indirect threats to commit suicide.(http://health.yahoo.com/health/encyclopedia/001554/0.html) | ||||||||
| Hamlet, I think, is suicidal, hes very unhappy with life. In Act 3, Scene 1, he says that to die is to sleep: nothing more. And that sleeping would end the heartaches and the thousand everyday anxieties that humans suffer, it would be an outcome cordially welcomed. He wants to end his life so that he does not want to worry about lifes problems. Ophelia, after Hamlet accidentally killing her father and Hamlet losing interest in her, goes mad and drowns in Act 4, Scene 7. They still bury her with a Christian ceremonial funeral. There is death and suicide throughout this book. | ||||||||
