| This was written in the journal....due to a fire some of the ending is burned away and questions marks (?) have been replaced where the word is unreadable. This is verbatim, so it might be as confusing to you as it was for me to type up! :) Corporal Baldwin,- About the heaviest job I have ever undertook was carrying a full marching pack, in our good Marine Corps, while training in Camp Elliotte, California Feb, and March -1944. Another - + another, - in Peleliu -Palua Group and Okinawa - Kyushu Islands. Both campaigns, we were loaded down like walking arsenals, hard grenades, rifles, demolition charges, packs, etc. at that we didn't carry half as much weight as the Okinawians (civilians) did while moving into the hills to get out of danger, of bombing, two baskets each weighing approximately 15 to (?) lbs. -other times just (?) ourselves around. |
