Oh, the plague. The curse of the recruiting world.
It was once said "One NEGATIVE can wipe out ten POSITIVES. Nowhere does this hold more true than in Recruiting Land. For decades, positive spouses have tried desperately to make this tour less stressful on new spouses. However, the bad-mouthers far outweigh the positive spouses. Sad thing is that the positive spouses are the ones who are involved from Day 1 of the tour, either in the station, company or battalion. They KNOW the job and all that it involves. The bad-mouthers is the group made up of spouses who always have an excuse "I tried but no one called me back", "No one asked me", etc. They become "involved" late in the game and the involvement is conditional. The "What's in it for me" attitude. They are the spouses who give "advice" on how to get out of the tour instead of how to make it through the tour. They are the WORST spouses to align yourself with in this tour.
Honestly, recruiting is a roller coaster ride. There are highs and lows throughout the three years. The positive spouses will focus on the highs, even the smallest high. The plague spouse will live off of the lows and those will be the first they share.
If you take only one thing from this entire site, take this: Take opinions for what they are ... emotional, limited scope, PERSONAL experiences. To make the tour successful for you and your recruiter, you need to forget opinions from outside your area and focus on facts. Form your OWN opinions. You will be happier, and just may help kill the plague.
