Twyla Robinson soprano
In SFO 2005-2006 Season
Countess Almaviva - Le Nozze Di Figaro
Biography
Twyla J Robinson offered the most complete package of the afternoon, from her elegant appearance to her cool, artful, seamless voice, well suited to Strauss's Arabella. She also offered a guaranteed show-stopper: the heart-wrenching "To This We've Come" from "The Consul" by Gian Carlo Menotti. To this ear, it accentuated a thinness and coolness in her voice, but it brought the audience to its feet.
-ANNE MIDGETTE, New York Times 4/24/02
She was also the only Adler Fellow to perform as a featured artist on Lotfi Mansouri's Farewell Gala
Reviews
On Cavalli's La Calisto
Love music aside, Cavalli reserved some of the most powerful moments for the spurned wife Juno. Twyla Robinson brought a large, gleaming soprano to the assignment, and her outpouring of rage in "Racconsolata e paga" was a show-stopper.
-Georgia Rowe, Contra Costa Times, 4/3/01
The program was exemplary: interesting, varied, an intelligent mix of standards and rarities, all well suited to Robinson's voice. This voice - already heard locally in roles as varied as Lady Billows in Albert Herring and First Lady in The Magic Flute - shifted effortlessly from Haydn to Poulenc to Wolf to Grieg to Sibelius to songs by Edwin Penhorwood to text by Emily Dickinson and Callum MacColl, and, in the end, to an a capella Irish song.
Robinson is indeed young. She made her professional debut just four years ago as First Lady in Mozart's The Magic Flute with the San Francisco Opera, having since followed that with some substantial roles, most notably Alice Ford in Verdi's valedictory opera, Falstaff , and the title roles in Richard Strauss' Arabella and Carlisle Floyd's Susannah  (Source.)
