This opera is a tour de force for a leading soprano and Patricia Racette had no trouble in filling the bill. Her portrayal of the psychologically repressed young wife who succumbs to temptation and is then overcome by her guilt was heart-rending. Her singing, sometimes soft and subtle and, at the more dramatic moments, strong and powerful, was always perfectly projected. Her acting seemed natural, too, making this a haunting interpretation.(Review-Kta Kabanov)

For sheer singing, one could hardly ask for a more thrilling performance. Racette commanded a powreful, nimble, accurate and richly colored instrument, with all the control in the world. Those who value vocal display had ample reason to cheer. (Source)
Patricia Racette's Tatiana was an innocent young girl who, became infatuated with the stylish gentleman who paid attention to her. On this evening her letter scene had few props, but she sang it with great emotional intensity and all the luscious colors we have come to cherish in her voice.
