| Tommi Hakala was catapulted into the Final from Concert 1 which was won by Elena Manistina. His programme tonight features arias from three operas which he has performed on stage. The tall baritone is ideal casting for Mozart's Count Almaviva, in Vedro mentr'io sospiro from Le Nozze di Fiagro. This is a 'rage' aria in which the the count expresses his fear and jealousy that Figaro might have got one over on him. Tommi really let fly in this expression of aristocratic outrage. Every thought which crossed the Count's mind in the recitative was clearly mapped out vocally and in Tommi's natural use of gesture. (Review) |
