The Dutch Beat scene is by far one of the finer examples of European 1960's rock and roll. The Outsiders,Q65,Motions,Bintangs,Golden Earrings, and the Tee-Set have all been praised for their contributions to the Dutch sixties . Groups like the Outsiders and Q65, are known for their rough and crude R&B, where as the Motions, Haigs, and the Golden Earrings are best remembered for their polished pop and beat offerings. Holland, as with the majority of Transworld players, has a long list of prolific artists . This page should give you a peek at a few of Holland's great R&Beat, Garage, Pop, and Psychedelic groups!

The Motions - Their first Lp is a perfect example of what a flawless pop record should sound like. Not a bad track on the record, with sound transending from catchy beat ballads to tasty R&Beat movers! Thanks to EBAY, copies of this record fetch close to $200-. Depending on who you talk to, the Motions made either one or two great Lp's. Following the departure of guitarist/song writer Robbie Van Leeuwen, the Motions aquired Gerard Romeyn from the Tee-Set. The Motions would see one Lp released in the U.S. before they split. Founding members Rudy Bennett and Robbie Van Leeuwen would both go on to various degrees of success, Bennett as part of Bennett and Bee, Van Leeuwen with international chart toppers Shocking Blue. Dutch beat never sounded as good as "You Bother Me".

The Outsiders - Led by the charasmatic Wally Tax, the Outsiders soon stole the hearts of many Dutch teenage girls (not to mention the hearing of anyone lucky to be witness to one of their live shows!!) and also the local charts. I believe that they may have played as near as Germany and as far away as France. The later I feel to be true, because of the existance of a French ep of their songs. The Outsiders were (and still are) masters of Dutch R&B, this is not to say that they couldn't pull off amazing pop numbers when the mood called for it. Wally Tax and bandmates soon left for new musical territory, that being their own brand of psychedelia on their second Lp, "CQ".

Les Baroques - These guys are best known for their chart hit "Such a Cad", a catchy melody with piercing guitar work and trademark sound oddities. Les Baroques, like the Ro-d-ys, experimented with complex arangements and a variety of instruments. Other notable tracks are "Silky," "Summer Beach," "I'll Send You to the Moon," and the fabulous "Working on a Tsjing Tsjang." Le
The RO-D-YS The RO-D-YS were from Oede Pekela, in a rural area of Holland. Their singer Harry Rijnbergen has a very distinctive voice, which often resembles Ray Davies(to me). they released two Lp's and a hand full of singles before falling apart and eventually merged with Zen. Their music goes from pulsing beat with its stinging guitars, to soul inspired pop. Later they experimented with the Psychedelic sound. Here are some 30 second MP3 clips from some of their best songs: "Just Fancy", "Take Her Home", "My Woman Has Got Loose", "Anytime", "Sleep Sleep Sleep", "Robinetta", and "Isn't It a Good Time?"
