***620 B.C., What would later be called Japan***

Satoshi ran as fast as his legs would take him. Golem was almost upon him. He couldn't let that creature get him or his daughter, Yuka. Cradling the infant in his arms, he plowed through the stormy night, hoping to find some place of sanctuary. But where? Where could one find sanctuary from such a demon?

A demon! That's it! There was a temple nearby, if Satoshi's memory served him. Surely Golem would not be able to enter onto its holy ground. As he ran further, he soon saw the temple coming into vision through the rain. Just a few more seconds...

Finally, he reached the temple doors. But they were locked. True, he could very easily blast them down, but he knew that such blasphemy would never be tolerated. He banged on the wooden gates as hard as he could, begging whoever was in there to grant them sanctuary. But no one came. As Golem approached, Satoshi knew that he had to fight. Gently setting Yuka down on the steps, he turned and drew Shotenken, his family's blade.

Golem stopped and smirked. The large, ogre-sized man, or what looked like a man, scoffed at his smaller opponent. "What's the matter, Satoshi? I thought you liked to fight. Come on, let's see what you got." Hefting his large battle-axe into his hands, he charged.

Satoshi barely had time to block. But even that did not benefit him as the force tossed him down onto the steps. He quickly got up and gathered his ki around his body. When his energy had reached its peak, he shouted out, "Tatsu Ken!" Ki-flames burst around his body instantly. With his new speed and strength, he engaged Golem once more. This time, the two seemed equally matched. However, as the battle progressed, Satoshi began to tire from the energy required to maintain his Tatsu Ken. As the flames died, Golem saw an opening and lodged his axe into Satoshi's side.

As Satoshi lay dying on the steps, the only two things he could hear were Yuka crying and Golem's insane laughter of triumph. Then, he heard another sound. He heard some footsteps, doors opening, and a yell of "Sei Ken Ha!" The last thing he saw before passing out was a bright, yellow light.

Satoshi woke up a few days later on a bed inside the temple. Apparently, the priest had somehow fended off Golem and healed his wounds. Reaching out with his ki, he sensed Yuka sleeping on a bed next to him. Smiling, he knew that he would live to fight Golem again. After all, Satoshi Kyojin doesn't give up.
