Paul Linden
Most personal websites are boring, and this is no exception. But hey, it's mine. I don't have much to say about myself except I'm the fat smug-looking one on the left.
The other fat smug-looking one is my daughter, Alannah Cate, who was born on 26th May 2002. She is six months old in this photograph.

About Paul: He was born in 1965 in Northern Ireland, the third son of Malachy and Deirdre, and the eventual brother of four who are best left unmentioned.
In 1988, after he got his degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, he was faced with the prospect of actually working for a living. So he opted to do a PhD instead, which he got in 1992. Unable to delay the onset of real life any longer, he started a two year stint as a post-doc in Hamburg, writing programs to simulate DFB lasers.
It was on a trip home to Belfast one Christmas that he met Cliona. Awed by her beauty and stunned by her intellect, he made desperate attempts to win her heart ... etc, etc.
After finishing his contract in Hamburg, he returned to Belfast for another two year post-doc, which was something to do with designing transponders. It was during this period that he realised he wasn't cut out for research, and made the move into software engineering. It was due to this move that he was, legally, able to move to San Francisco after the Irish company he worked for was bought by an American one.
He is presently working on unified messaging software for use on PCs and mobile phones, so employees need never again be out of touch with the office.

About Cliona: Cliona was born in Mayo in 1969, the second daughter of Tommy and Enda, and the eventual sister of Derval, James and John.
In 1991, after completing her degree in Biotechnology in Dublin City University, she went north to Belfast to do an MMedSci, little knowing what and who awaited her there. After this, convinced that a PhD would be very useful in her future career, she started one while working at the same time as a technician in the same lab.
It was at a Christmas party one year that she was accosted by a strange young man called Paul. Eventually she gave in to his charm and beseeching good looks, and they haven't looked back.
After getting her PhD in 1998, she worked on for one year longer in Belfast, before she and Paul decided it was time to get married and go to San Francisco, where she now works as a post-doc in a lab in Berkeley.

Paul and Cliona miss being DINKies. Married with one baby but no cats or dogs, they never seem to have an opportunity to go out anywhere. So now they now live in suburban bliss in a ranch-style house near San Francisco.
