Craig Taunton is a musician, song writer,
producer and performer that has a unique passion for his music.
He sings, he plays all the instruments and he calls himself
KEG!
KEG! has been involved in music for ten years,
playing 'round in bands and getting involved in basically any
music opportunity that came his way.
Originally starting off in the school concert
band playing Trumpet, he then moved onto garage bands where
he dabbled in Drums, Bass Guitar and Keyboards.
Soon after this KEG formed an all originals
band called 'FISHHEAD' along with long time friends 'David Key'
& 'Craig Munday'. When this band originally started, KEG
was playing Acoustic Guitar and they were using a Drum Machine.
In time this band evolved and so did KEG as he ended up being
the Lead Vocalist and Songwriter. As the Front man of 'FISHHEAD'
KEG built up quite a reputation for his crazy stage antics and
very unique performance style, which often included costumes
and stage props. FISHHEAD became quite a popular band around
Western Sydney but unfortunately after a few years, disbanded
due to members leaving to pursue other things.
After the break-up of FISHHEAD, KEG then joined
a theatre company with FISHHEAD's Drummer 'Paul Stewart', to
do a production which they both performed in. As well as a performance
role, KEG also got involved in the Musical Directing side of
things. KEG also utilised his song writing skills for the production
as well as singing vocal tracks on the recording of the production's
radio advertisement.
Out of this theatre production, KEG hooked
up with some other musicians, involved in the show, and formed
an all original 5 piece band called PULSE. At this time KEG
began to develop a new style of song writing, as this band had
a huge emphasis on vocal harmonies which featured in the songs.
This band also included KEG wearing a bright Pink maternity
dress at each gig, which always got an interesting response
from the crowd. PULSE were really starting to develop their
own sound and had great collection songs but at the same time
was not quite what KEG was looking for at the time and thus,
left the band in search for something else.
Not long after this KEG began to write and
record a few song idea's that had been floating 'round in his
head at the time of PULSE, but that had never made it off the
drawing board. He soon discovered that he had some new fresh
idea's that were worth pursuing and was in search of a new band.
In a strange kind of way, the next day he bumped into an old
friend 'Shane Hasabig' who was a drummer and was looking to
put something together. They both began to Jam and work on KEG's
new material and 'Shane's' input was exactly what KEG needed
to complete the songs and develop a repertoire of new material.
Unfortunately, due to 'Shane Hasabig' leaving to go work in
America, this newly established band (which was using the working
name 'CRADDOCK') didn't quite eventuate and KEG kind of landed
back where he had started.
With the frustration of it all, KEG decided
to go use his musical abilities to make some regular weekend
money and shortly after, joined 'HEAD INJURIES' The Midnight
Oil Covers Band. KEG played full-time in this band for two years
and had plenty of regular work. The only problem was KEG had
always been a passionate song writer and performer and was now
no longer able to express himself with original material. It
was at this precise moment that KEG decided he would record
his own album consisting of all original songs written, recorded
and produced by him.
KEG began to start writing songs again and
left HEAD INJURIES to pursue his passion. During this period,
KEG played a number of session gigs for covers bands and weddings
etc, to make a bit of extra cash on the side, but kept the focus
on his long term goal - the album!
And Now........ In the Year 2001, it is here!
The all new original album called KEG!, written, recorded and
produced by Craig Taunton. It contains 13 tracks of Rock, Pop
and Emotion. It also has a bonus track which can be played as
a CD-ROM. So get the album, turn it up loud & enjoy.......'cause
KEG sure did!!!!!
