1. First and foremost, we welcome you as a new tournament director to the Canasta Clowns. You should become familiar with the Admins and Head TD's as they will be the ones training you and answering all your questions. They are oops_sry_about_your_luck, misssnookie76, twisted_mommy, knotty_p_eater, dixiedelight7, and lyd_72.
2. A tournament director needs to make tournaments on a regular basis (3 a week). After all, thats why the players are here, and thats what keeps them coming back. We do understand that sometimes there are times when a person cant make tourneys as frequently, and that is fine, just let us know so we can compensate. Just let a Head TD or Admin know if you will not be making tourneys for more than 1 week so that we can put you on vacation so you wont get dropped. Cases can automatically purge TDs that have been idle for 21 days, unless they are on vacation mode.
3. If you do not make a tourney for 7 days, and you do not notify a Head TD to put you on vacation, then you will be put on vacation, which will not allow you to register to play in tournaments. You will have to talk to a Head TD to explain why you havent hosted for 7 days for them to take you off vacation. From that point you will have 10 days to host a tourney or you will be removed. Helping new players join and register for tourneys is very important since we are growing and getting new players every day.
4. Help other TDs get teams together for doubles, 3x3, etc. For team tourneys, please make sure you create them in advance so that players can see it on the tourney calendar and have plenty of time to get their teams registered early.
5. As a tournament director, it is important to be friendly and helpful to all players in the league and in the room. If there is an argument or disagreement, please take it to an i.m. or table. It is a bad reflection on the TD and the league to be seen arguing in the lobby.
6. If you are a TD in our league, that shows loyalty and dedication to our league. You can play in any leagues you choose, but you can only be a tournament director one canasta league.
7. There will usually be a Head TD on that will advertise the upcoming 2-3 tourneys. When you create a tourney that is coming up, just instant message the person that is doing the advertisement so that they can add it to the spam. If there is not a Head TD in the room, then please take the initiative to advertise the upcoming tournaments so that everything runs smoothly even when a Head TD isnt around.
8. Players are only allowed to play in a maximum of 2 games/tourneys at a time. If you notice that a player is playing in 3 or more, that player will be put on a 10 minute timer in the 3rd game, and they may play if one of their other games finish before the timer has expired. When players are playing too many games at a time, it not only delays the games in 1 tourney, but in all 3 tourneys.
9. When you create a tourney, under location you should put SL5 - (type of game). This way it will show up on the tourney calendar and all the TDs and players can see what kinds of tourneys have been made without actually going to the tourney pages. On the page where you choose the time for your tourney, look at the other tourneys that were just scheduled and the ones that are scheduled for the next few time slots. Choose a tournament that hasnt been hosted too much so that we have a variety of tourneys for the players to choose what they want to play.
10. When you see that a tourney is about to close, and there are lots of players in the room, look at the calendar to see if another tourney is going to start. If not, thats your cue that we need one. When one tourney closes, there should be another tournament director ready to start advertising another tourney.
11. All TDs should have a spam program to run advertisements. The spam to join the league should be run at least every 30 minutes. Try not to make your spam more than 4 or 5 lines or it erases everything else thats going on in the lobby. At the bottom of this page are directions on how to download and use the ShortKeys program.
12. Make sure that you announce the type of game at each table and make sure all players understand the rules. This is especially important if you notice that new players are in your tourney. Make sure all players understand the rules to the game when you are at the table.
13. All TDs should make sure they understand the rules to all our different types of tourneys. On the main page announcement, there is a link to a website I created that explains every type of tourney that we play.
14. If at any time you decide to resign as a tournament director, please let us know. We would rather you be honest with us, and you are still more than welcome to play in the league.
15. Your first 10 tourneys are free entry tourneys. This is also your probation and training period. Please make a good impression and be friendly at all times. The more the players like you, the more likely they are to join your tourneys.
16. Please host only the tourneys that you have the rules pages for. As you become a more experienced td, you will get more rules pages. If you would like more rules pages, please ask a Head TD.
17. Also we have a 45 min timer on all single games, 70min timer on doubles, and 15min on quickies. If you notice one person taking longer than the other and time is getting close to running out please notify the table that time is about up and how much longer they have. If the slow player is in the lead even towards the time about being up if they are the cause of slow play they are the one to be dqed. If it is on last hand when the 45min is up then let them finsh that hand so long as it is withing reasonable time. Our timers for mia players........is ten minutes total! So if you have a person who got booted and was gone for 4 minutes then they again in the same game get booted again only have 6 minutes remaining on timer left. Please try to enforce theses rules as they will keep your tournaments running smoothly and keep you from hosting one tournament all day/night long.
18. Last, and certainly not least, HAVE FUN! That is the reason we are all here. We are dedicated to having a successful and friendly league, and your biggest responsibility as a tournament director is to help us continue with this goal!
Happy Gaming :) Canasta Clowns Administration
All TD's should have a spam program. This will allow you to run advertisements in the lobby for new players to sign up for the league, tournaments, or rules for the "weird" games. Spams help so that you don't have to continually type the same thing over and over again. There are many spam programs out there, but most of them have a 30 day trial then you have to buy it. I found one that is a lite version and is free forever. Now here is the info and directions on how to download and use Short Keys. Please follow the directions, and if you need help, feel free to ask any of our TDs. Go to www.shortkeys.com/lite.htm to download the program. When you first open the program, click on "Options", then "Prefix and Suffix Keys". Make sure that "Use Prefix Keys" is marked, and type "QQ" in the box below it, then click OK. Now you are ready to create spams. Click on "Edit", then "Add ShortKey". For "Original ShortKey", type "A", then type your spam out in the box, then click "Update". Now, anytime you type "qqa" in caps without quotes, that spam will run. The program is case sensitive, so make sure you are using caps to run the spam. Now you can add as many spams as you want using a different letter for the original shortkey.
