Disneyland-Alweg Monorail
ADVENTURE BY LAND AND BY SEA
In Tomorrowland's unique attractions, you can explore the depths of the
oceans aboard a submarine, ride sleek Monorail trains, and tour a world
of science and industry aboard the revolutionary new PEOPLEMOVER
transportation system.
Note: The name on the submarine is SKATE.
TOMORROWLAND
Sleek Monorail trains glide swiftly and silently over the "Highway in
the Sky" in Tomorrowland. Below, submarines of the Disneyland fleet--
one of the world's largest--take guests on a voyage through liquid
space.
Note: The name on the submarine in the background is GEORGE
WASHINGTON.
Previewing the future of transportation, the first complete Monorail
System in the United States carries guests over the Submarine Lagoon
and around the Disneyland Matterhorn mountain. Climbing steep grades
and racing around sharp curves, the Disneyland-Alweg Monorail trains
run over a concrete "highway in the sky."
America's first daily-operating monorail trains transport passengers
over a concrete "highway in the sky" between Disneyland and the
Disneyland Hotel on the Disneyland-Alweg Monorail System.
Trivia
- The Mark I monorail began running in Disneyland in 1959.
- The German word "Alweg" ultimately means "all-way."
(Alweg was the company that combined efforts with Disneyland to build
the Disneyland monorail system.)
Some of the trivia were gatherered from
The Bertino Disney archives.
