Thai
families, like many Asian families, are hierachical in nature. This
means that the older people in the family have seniority. The father is
regarded as the leader of the family, but the mother also plays a
significant role particularly in the family finances. Thai children are
educated to respect their parents and support them when their parents
grow old. Most parents have to support their children until they finish
school even up to the university level.
