OUT on MDI

Supporting the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender
and allied community of Downeast Maine

Who Are We?

OUT on MDI is a casual social group that ebbs and flows with the seasons and currently meets at a roving meeting spot for our monthly potluck. OUT on MDI is not a completely confidential group, but we are considerate of people's privacy. Our mission statement goes into more detail.

For those of you from "away" - MDI is the local acronym for Mount Desert Island, which is located on the coast of Maine - home of Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park.

Out On MDI is open to anyone willing to drive here! Men, women, trans, singles, couples, any age. We specifically define ourselves as not political though many of us do do political things and let people know upcoming events. But the potlucks themselves are for fun and relaxation.

Our Mission Statement

We have come together, lesbians, gay men, and bisexuals, out of a need to eliminate the isolation we experience in rural, Downeast Maine. Our purpose is to provide a safe and caring space for people such as ourselves to meet and relate to one another. We understand that discrimination against us connects us to a wide spectrum of other minorities who are discriminated against by the same forces. Therefore, we intend to focus on the education of the community at large so as to eliminate misunderstanding, ignorance, prejudice, and hate. We welcome and seek all who positively share and enhance our mission.
