Ideals are like stars: you will not succeed in touching them with your hands, but like the seafaring man on the ocean desert of waters, you choose them as your guides, and following them, you reach your destiny.
-Carl Schurz (1829 - 1906)

The Roads

These roads are infallible so I
trust them with my heart and soul.

He's bleak,
his eyes, they're red.
He speaks:

"Don't trust me anymore since I ruined your
life with empty promises and forgotten claims."

We passed a truck that staggered the
exposed lifelessness of these roads,
causing the dirt to fly into my open window.

But I just laughed, marveling at the
encouraging glow of the stars, and
how infinite they seemed from afar.

He had begun to fall into a slumber
when the thunder started to roar,
making futile attempts to change my
mood back to whatever it had been before.

Life's unanswered questions and desires
were what opened this door.
Even God hasn't traveled this road before.
