Buck-eyed
Bill and the contest
One day there was a man called Buck-eyed Bill. He
was the best tree-chopper there ever was. And he was nice too. He always thought
of other people and not just himself, he was never selfish.
One day
there was a contest to see who the best tree-chopper was. The person he was
going against was Eager Ed who was the meanest man in the whole forest. He
never thought about anybody, and he was the most selfish man too.
When those two
tree-choppers got to the contest, the race was whoever cut down the most trees
won. Buck-eyed Bill knew that Eager Ed was good, but he was brave. He knew he
could beat that guy no matter what. He always said if you try then you are
always a winner. The race was starting…
1…2…3…GO! And the race
leader shot the gun up in the air and they were off. Buck-eyed Bill cut 1 then
2 then 3 he went on. Buck-eyed Bill’s axe got so hot it caught fire, but Eager
Ed was getting ahead. Buck-eyed Bill only had one more tree to go. WHAM! The
tree fell. “Ladies and gentleman Buck-eyed Bill is our winner,” said the race
conductor! Everybody lifted Buck-eyed Bill up, but Eager Ed wasn’t happy that
he won so Buck-eyed Bill went over there and shook his hand. “Good job Ed, even
though you didn’t win there’s something that you should always remember, if you
try then you are always a winner.”
