Come to University at Buffalo's On the Falls Invitational to challenge yourself to the competitive world of Mock Trial....

The University at Buffalo along with the Student Association of the University and the American Mock Trial Association  invite you to partake in this learning experience. We will be accepting registration for 30 Mock Trial teams across the country.  The University is located only 15 minutes from the beautiful and senic site of Niagara Falls and the night life of Canada's Clifton Hill (Guiness World Records Museum,  two brand new Casinos, Skylon Tower, Japanese Gradens, and butterfly dome).

Team Registration:
Email Vanessa Graf at [email protected] and list how many teams you are bringing to register.  
Beginning August first, you will recieve a email back with instructions on payment due dates and a
copy of the registration form which should be mailed in with the check. If you do not follow the
due dates in the email, you may lose your spot and early bird registration price.

Parking:
All day parking will be available for free in the Furnas lot on both Saturday and Sunday.  The
lot is located directly in front of the Union and is accessible from White Rd.  Parking permits
are not necessary.  See campus map above for detailed directions.

To volunteer to Judge:
     
You can register to judge by emailing Vanessa Graf at [email protected].  In the email please state which round you would like to judge for.  You may sign up for one round or all four rounds. You will receive a registration confirmation email.  Round times are listed below.   Each judge only must attend one orientation session if volunteering for multiple rounds, however judges must check-in at the appropriate check-in time for each round.  The event is located in the Student Union at University at Buffalo (please see above for directions to the Student Union on the University at Buffalo North Campus).

Here is a little information about the American Mock Trial Association if you are interested in learning more about judging, however all important information will be reviewed at the orientation preceding the judging rounds.

Jurisdiction of Midlands
You are presiding in the fictional jurisdiction of Midlands.
Midlands utilizes modified versions of the Federal Rules of Civil and Criminal Procedure.
Today�s trial is to be considered a bench trial.
No motions are permitted, except the motion to strike objectionable testimony.

Special Witness Rules
Witnesses are pre-sworn (you should not administer the oath)
Invention of fact � not permitted; must be handled via impeachment
No certification of expert witnesses

Scoring
3 Judges per round (2 scoring; 1 presiding)*
Ballots provided at the round�s start by each team.
Scores range from 1-10, with 10 being the highest (ballot has a GUIDE FOR APPROPRIATE EVALUATION).

DO NOT SCORE BASED ON THE MERITS OF
THE CASE/DO SCORE ON THE BASIS OF LAWYERING AND WITNESSING SKILL
Teams should be judged by their familiarity with the Midland�s Rules of Procedure and their execution of lawyering skills:
Knowledge of case facts
Advocacy
Offering and entering evidence Demeanor/Professionalism
Organization of case         
Effective use of objections as well as their convincing and effective portrayal of witnesses:
