COMMISSIONERS CORNER
Before we get on to business OPW would like to send our condolences out to the owners of AVE who are one of our sponsors, the owners mother passed away recently.
Now onto business.
You know what I'm tired of?  The bad rap pro wrestling has.  In independent wrestling which is what OPW is, it is a tough business that is not the WWE in a lot of ways including advertising budget or the adult material in their events.
Before a show I go to local businesses and ask if I can put a poster up in their window and a lot of times I get "Sorry we don't support wrestling", and my first thought is "oh so you don't support entertainment".  But that can"t be true because they have all kinds of flyers up for bands and such.  The thing that pisses me of the most is that one of these businesses were a non profit organization. I couldn"t help but wonder if they would say the same thing if I came in with a big cheque for their organization. Would they say, "we don't support wrestling so we can"t accept that".  I think probably not.
Every indie promotion busts their butt to put on an event.  So when we ask to put a poster in a businesses window where there is other advertisements for other kinds of events don't compare us to the WWE with a lot of inappropriate material.  We are the same as the other events that are coming to your town that you are already advertising.
So next time one of these business owners say "sorry we don't support wrestling" I hope they take a second and think about what it is that is so objectionable that they refuse to put a poster up. Most indie wrestling events is entertainment the whole family can go to and enjoy and is not the stuff you see on Monday nights.
Most of the independent wrestlers in Ontario not just OPW but over all are a good bunch of guys that do this for the pure enjoyment and are more than happy to sign an autograph or sit and talk to the fans at intermission or after the event.  They are not just a bunch of Carney scumbags looking to make a quick buck, because truth be know these athletes don't make a lot of money doing this and do it for the pure enjoyment of entertaining you the fans.
