Hi all,
As most of you know Ontario Formula Ford B class standout Gord Lowe has been very ill recently. On New Year's day Gord died due to complications while on vacation in Tobago in the West Indies. For those of us who got to know him via racing, he will sadly missed. A memorial to celebrate Gords life will be organized in a short while.

Gord was my friend and I his for the past 15 odd years of racing together, starting with Vintage and lately he mentoring me in Formula Ford. I bought a FFord at his urging, and I've enjoyed it as much as he said I would. He was a remarkable man, the most friendly, sharing, in-your-face, uncouth, unpretentious, politically incorrect a**hole it may ever be my honour and privilege to know. I believe in my heart that he died like he raced - going for an outside pass on the grim reaper in Turn 2, foot flat on the floor..  Just because it wasn't going to stick wasn't a good enough reason not to try...

This world is already sorely lacking in characters and sadly we have lost one more. On this board he was known as Stu Pidd but I assure he was anything but. His wit was sharp and generosity unbounded. He was instrumental to keeping the Ontario FF Series going when others bailed, and won 3 championships in Formula Ford in the last 7 years, plus sedan and motorcycle successes in years past.

Gord was the real deal, and we all miss him terribly.

Gord will be sorely missed.
His sense of humour and his driving skill were excellent.
He was instrumental in making our series what it is today and that will always be a credit to him and an inspiration to others.
He leaves a huge void in our paddock and our hearts.

When I joined the OFFC series in 2002, Gord came over to welcome my crew and I to the series. We have been friends since. I talked to him on his birthday (15 Dec), he was in good spirit and we had a few racing stories to chat/laugh about.

We will miss him that's for sure....

It still seems impossible that Gord is gone.

Gord  was such a big part of what race weekends were about for me. He was usually my first stop when I arrived at the track. His enjoyment of the sport and sense of humour were infectious. You would only have to spend a few minutes at his trailer before you were laughing and the weekend was off to a good start.

We shared a lot of great times and had some great races. We swapped stories and jokes (well he usually provided most of the jokes,) and racing information and ideas and were both the better for it.

He was a classy guy and I feel lucky to have known him. I think that I am no alone in this.

He was my friend and he will be missed.

He will truely be missed!

The last four months were terribly painful for Gord but his courage and fighting spirit never abandoned him. With Karens unwavering support he fought the good fight to the very end.
I will greatly miss our battles on the track  -  usually with me staring at his tail pipe!

Gord was always supportive and friendly to everyone from the most seasoned veterans to the newest of newcomers.  His words of encouragement and support will be truly missed.  He was a great man, both on and off the track.

I am saddened to hear of the passing of a friend and competitor.
Gord mentored several people including me when we were new to the  formula ford ranks.  His candid insight into the world of open wheel  racing was refreshing.  He never failed to make me laugh each and  every time we spoke.
I feel very fortunate to have known him.

I am deeply sadden by the passing of a true sportsman. At least he did it his way right to the end. Miss you Gordo.

I met Gord about 12 years ago through Vintage racing. I was just finishing up school and was looking for a job, Gord got me an interview at a company he was working for at the time (Can-Ross) and 11 years later I am still working for the same company Gord had helped me get into. Gord was a people person, he built relationships with just about everybody he met which was what made him such a great salesman and a great friend. At the track Gord would always paddock off by himself yet he was never alone, there was always someone at his trailer having a chat with him and I bet not one person left without him making them laugh at least once. That's the type man Gord was. I thank you Gord for everything you have done, we will all miss you very much!!

Karen's message
Even before I was officially involved with the OFFC, to me Formula Fords meant Gord Lowe.  I always felt that Gord brought vintage Formula 1 cool to the region paddock.  Once he put on his driving suit, there was something about his demeanor that reminded me of the Grand Prix drivers of the 1960s and 70s.  Anyone who only saw the politically incorrect straight-shooter missed his true character. Gord was one of the toughest, most caring and decent people it has ever been my pleasure to know.  Many of us were beneficiaries of his dedication to the sport he loved.  Since his last race at Calabogie, there has been a Gord-sized hole in the paddock and on the track.  For many of us, I believe that is a space which will never be filled.
Godspeed, Gord.

I'll miss Gord. We had some laughs, and I was always glad to see him. I've got a rubber chicken hanging in my garage in his honour.

Gord has been an inspiration to our racing family. He was a " special " character that added fun and competition to our racing.
There will always be a place for him in our paddock .
