The art of handbuilding clay objects is an ancient technique. It allows the clay artist to create pieces of various shapes and sizes and offers the most scope for free expression.
Rita hand-builds all her work, using slab, coil and pinching techniques. Her collection includes a series of whimsical animals designed purely for pleasure.
She also creates functional pieces and decorates them by painting, carving or incising with patterns.
She is currently working on pieces made entirely from small balls of clay which create their own patterns when merged together.
