| WHY USE ON-SITE OIL | ||||||||||||||||
| The most important asset to any vehicle is a good, quality, oil and oil filter, weather it is a car, truck, motor home, or go-cart. If you really value the equipment you own, the best oil is worth every penny. OIL DOES MATTER! To go along with the quality of the oil and filter, is the frequency in which it is changed. Regular, on-time intervals for changing your oil, is equally as important. When is the right time to change your oil? What is a good quality motor oil, is there a difference? What is the best oil filter on the market? There is a lot of advice out there, both good and bad, when referring to the questions mentioned above. Here are the best answers that I know of, after 24 + years in the maintenance business. I know for a fact that some of the best automobiles in the world come from the factory with synthetic oil in them, Corvette, Porsche, Mercedes Benz, Dodge Viper, Mustang Cobra, Austin Martin, and others. They use Mobil 1 synthetic oil right off the assembly line. The bottom line there is; synthetic oil is far superior to regular petroleum motor oil, end of conversation. The brands - Mobil, Pennzoil, Castrol etc. are a preference. True, the additives in each are different and all take on a different aspect to protect the engine, but synthetic oil, is synthetic oil. They are all good. Mobil also makes one of the best oil filters in the business. They have the highest rating that I know of for trapping microscopic particles in the engine oil (measured in microns). All oil filters - filter oil. It is a matter of how well they do the job. Mobil 1 filters cost more because they do more, they are the best at what they do, filter the engine oil. It is recommended that you change your oil every 3 months or 3000 miles. If I owned an Oil Company, I would tell you the same thing. 3 months / 3000 miles is a blanket statement the industry uses. If you drive your vehicle less than 20 minutes at a time for less then 20 miles at no faster then 45 mph, that is considered "Harsh Driving" conditions. Yes, change your oil every 3 / 3000. But, if you exceed 45 mph (highway), for more then 20 minutes and travel more than 20 miles (on a regular basis), you can go longer between oil changes, up to 5000 miles with conventional motor oil. Synthetic oil, you can go to 10,000 plus miles if you put "highway" miles on your vehicle, 6 / 6000 with "Harsh Driving". Believe it or not, an air filter is just as important as the oil filter in keeping contaminates out of the engine. The less amount of dust particles passing through (or around) the air filter, the less that will get into the engine by way of blow-by and enter the engines crankcase and into the oil. If you think about it, an engine runs on air, 10,000 gallons or more of air for every gallon of fuel. A good quality air filter, changed on a regular basis is very important when it comes to keeping your engine, and engine oil clean and lasting longer. |
