Jean Burgess, Perth’s latest poet, is set to launch her first publication ‘On Reflection’, a collection of 10 poems which explore the inner turmoil of conflicting, contradictory emotions; a deeply passionate expression of the ongoing battle between negative outside influences combined treacherously with ones inner demons.
What would generally be viewed as the normal process of social conditioning is perceived as intrusive caustic judgments set to constrain the desire to outwardly express and define oneself, this being at odds with the very natural human need to develop meaningful social interactions.
The poetry contained within the pages of ‘On Reflection’ is deliberately structured to take the reader on a roller coaster ride of highs and lows. Beginning dark and menacing only to then descend into the depths of despair, with a final touch of black humour, thus ending on a doubious light note.
