Introducing Our New Blue Chow Baby:
Our newest member of the family is Jericho. He is a 9 week old blue Chow Chow puppy. Talk about active! He now weighs a little over 7lbs., and is a bouncing, happy boy. Isn't he a cutie? He is as big a stinker as he looks, too. He gives Abbott and Costello a very hard time. They hit the couch sometimes just to get away from him. It gets really wild when all three are running through the house at 90 miles an hour.
Our family lost our Chief, a red Chow. We'd had Chief for almost 9 years, since he was about 9 weeks old. We miss him terribly. He was a very important member of the family. We were devastated when he died. Vic wanted me to try to find another Chow pup, because we live in the country, and really need a dog  outside to watch the house. I agreed, and knew that it might help us heal. Chief was Zach's dog, even though he adored the whole family. But Chief and Zach were inseperable and basically grew up together. It hit him pretty hard. So on the net I go, searching and making inquiries. I told Vic to get on and look one night, and the first site he went to, had pups that were 3 weeks old. You're gonna love this........in Georgia. Southwest of Macon. So here we go, to Roberta, Georgia, over 350 miles one way. Yeah, everyone thinks we're crazy....but we don't care.
When we got there we were met by one of the owners and the puppies mother. She was a beautiful black Chow, and we met the dad. He was a large beautiful red Chow. We were impressed that mom was not the least bit aggressive. She made the token bark, then just wanted to meet us. We went inside to see the puppies, all seven. All the pups were crawling everywhere, doing the puppy squeal and yap. Except one. He was larger than the rest, sound asleep, and was the obstacle the others were climbing over. Everyone we held just didn't seem "the one". Vic kept pointing out the one sleeping through the whole thing. The young lady handed him to Vic. The little blue boy opened his eyes, looked at Vic, yawned, and licked Vic's nose. He was hooked. Vic looked at me and grinning from ear to ear, said,"This is the "the one"!" The pups were now 4 weeks, so we paid a deposit, and made arrangements to come back in two weeks to pick him up, if all was going well.
Two weeks can make a big difference in a puppy. We arrived back in Georgia to find our obviously blue  puppy had changed shades of blue and gotten darker. Not only that, he had legs! ( His very large stomach drug the ground before, because his legs weren't long enough.) But you could tell it was him. Vic spotted him immediately. And now after a couple of  weeks home, he has grown very fast. He is again getting a little lighter in color, but still is darker than when we first  saw him. He is a spoiled rotten puppy dog. And I know we'll have a lot of tales to tell on this one.
