Abbott & Costello
        Escapades 6

Where to begin. This has been Costello's first Christmas. He has been a really good boy. (He musta been afraid Santa would find out.) He didn't bother the tree or gifts, quickly learning no. He and Abbott were intrested in sniffing the tree and gifts, but they didn't tear anything up. I did have an interesting time trying to take some Christmas pics. I put a cushion on the floor in front of the tree. I used quilt batting to cover it, and placed gifts all around. Problem was, as I was trying to spread the batting over the cushion and carpet, I suddenly noticed there was a hump that wasn't there before. Then the hump moved! Cosie, in his infinate curiosity, had crawled under the batting and onto the cushion! So I had to fish him out. The object was to get the two scamps to prop up on the cushion. Right. Abbott was wonderfully cooperative. Costello just had too much to figure out. He thought since I was putting all these gift obstacles around him, he would just climb over them.
I am still trying to figure out what was going on in Abbott's head. The boys were in the bathroom with me as I got ready for work one morning. Both were pretty active for early in the morn. I happen to look down at them, and they were sitting facing opposite directions, cheek to cheek. Abbott....he must have decided Cosie needed a shave. He had Cosie's whiskers in his mouth, chomping away. And Cos was just sitting there letting him! I will admit, I am still confused.
Have you ever tried to wrap gifts with a peke as your helper? I really wouldn't advise it. I really didn't need the help. But I got it anyway. I spread out my wrap, turned around to get the scissors I hid under my leg, and turned back around to find Abbott had stretched out on my wrap! And he wasn't moving by his own free will.
Costello is a morning peke. He sometimes makes it very hard for me to like him with his excited bouncing the first five minutes of my waking up. As soon as the alarm goes off, before I can get the clock turned off and put my feet on the floor, he is bouncing at my feet. He is trying to hurry me up. He is so excited, I am always afraid I'll step on him in my sleepy stupor.
Uhhhh......Can you hang on a sec.......Abbott is in the bathroom barking. He either needs water in his bowl, or he wants a bath......brb.............It was the water bowl.....But he was in the tub, too. Do you think he might have wanted both?
Abbott is a very intelligent dog. And we thought the footboard on our bed was just for looks. Ha! Abbott has discovered it is a wonderful backscratcher. One morning I was awakened by a strange noise at the foot of the bed. I got up to look, and there was Abbott, moving forward and backward, grinning from ear to ear. All I could do was shake my head and grin back at him.
Abbott and Cosie love to chase each other and wrestle. They take turns putting the other one down. Once in a while they stop to take a 30 second break, panting and laying on their stomachs. Cosie will start barking, and Abbott will get still as a statue. He will cut his eye around at Cosie, and pounce! Cos knows it's coming, he just doesn't know when. Abbott will knock him over and they'll roll across the floor. It looks like Abbott is wrestling a mop. But the mop fights back.
Cosie is a self-appointed bather. I think he considers it his duty to make sure you are clean. When you take a bath with him in the room,(which is most of the time, as he is my little shadow), he jumps up on the step an struggles to get to your face. I lean over and say "Hey Sweet Feet!", and he proceeds to enthusiastically lick my face, nose, ear, eye, and hair. He works very hard until he is satisfied my face is sparkling clean. Then he jumps down from the step, curls up and snores. I guess it must be exhausting work for the little fella.
Abbott and Cosie have a new game. They run around all over the house, wrestle, then Abbott will jump up on the couch so Cos can't get him. Trouble is, he forgets to move his tail away from the edge of the couch. Or maybe he does it to tease Cos. It makes Cosie crazy. He barks and jumps wildly, trying to get Abbott. When he decides he can't reach him, he grabs his tail and pulls and shakes his heads for all he's worth. The only way Abbott can get loose is to jump off the couch and run. Which is what Cosie wanted all along!
Escapades will continue....

One night I was on the couch watching tv. Abbott jumped on the couch and stepped on the remote beside me. He picked it up, tuned around and layed it on my legs. He then layed down on my legs with his chin on the remote, guarding it. Ok......he can watch what he wants, I wasn't about to try to get it.
