Ok, I know you guys wanna know about plot, but the hardest part is not to reveal too much of the plot.  In Basics, Ah! My Goddess the Movie is a story of love and amnesia, where a main character has her memories stripped, while the other characters fight to restore them, plus they also save the world and learn more about Belldandy's past.
Based on Katsuhiro Otomo's famous manga, Akira is probably one of the best known anime there is. It certainly is one of the most widely available, and even video stores that don't carry anime usually have a copy of it. Not to mention the fact that it's a damned good movie, and is perfect for introducing anime to newbies.

For those interested in tense, tough anime action (in particular the likes of Vampire Hunter D, CastleVania or any other kind of vampire fighting media), then perhaps you should check out the new slayer on the block, Blood: The Last Vampire.

Things open with Lupin and Jigen scoring a major haul from a ritzy casino. As they make off with the dough, however, Lupin notices that it's all counterfeit. Just take a gander at those shots and you'll see what I mean when I say nutty. Dragon Half makes liberal use of the super-deformed style of animation with hilarious results. The characters will switch between stoic heroism one minute to incredibly cute the next.

The Vision of Escaflowne still ranks as my all-time favorite anime, combining epic storytelling, engaging characters, a beautiful musical score, and some solid visuals into an all-around stellar package. So, when I first heard a movie based on the series was being produced I had my hopes set high.

One of the treasured landmarks of Japanese animation, Grave of the Fireflies easily dispels any notion that anime is all about ditzy magical girlfriends or buxom teenage robot pilots. Here is a film that depicts the aftermath of World War II from the perspective of the non-combatant Japanese civilian populace. A young boy and his sister, unable to fully understand what the war is about in the first place, find their small village firebombed during an American campaign to demoralize the Japanese public.

The story takes place in the distant future, with the world having become a post-apocalyptic wasteland where only the strong survive. One of the strong, Ken, tries to protect the weak, all while on a quest to rescue his kidnapped girlfriend from his jealous rival. Fist tends to be quite character-oriented, except that the characters themselves were rather uninteresting, ranging from big and mean to even bigger and meaner.

Set in an alternate future, the city of Metropolis is a modern utopia built on the backs of robot labor and filled with a brimming, diverse populace. The surface of the expansive city bustles with excitement, as a loud speaker proudly proclaims Metropolis the world leader in culture and technology.

Unfortunately, the slight disappointment soon turned into complete disgust for what I was watching. One of the major flaws was the amount of cutting made to trim the series down from over 2 hours to merely 90 minutes. While the overall story of Lord Nobunaga attempting to conquer Japan remains somewhat intact, a lot of the subtler plot elements, as well as almost all of Nobunaga's scenes, were removed.

Spirited Away opens with Chihiro and her parents traveling to their new home. Chihiro resents the idea and expresses her disapproval in a quiet sulk. Along the way, her father mistakes an off-beaten road for a short cut, and they inadvertently wind up in what he thinks is an abandoned amusement park. A brief exploration reveals a restaurant's unattended buffet and Chihiro's parents succumb to the delicious offerings.

The story takes place in the distant future where technology has taken a large step backwards. The world is shrouded in a veil of medieval times and twisted forms of life have risen preying on humankind. One such human, a young girl named Doris, has been victimized by a deadly vampire Count Magnus. Only a mysterious vampire hunter known as D intervenes to help her.

One thing Vampire Princess Miyu excels at is atmosphere. The art is deliberately dulled slightly, with wonderful uses of shading. Scenery was equally captivating, with some sinister shapes taking twisted, human-like forms. Beautiful stuff. Even city scenes felt slightly ominous and not quite "real". The music helped add that final punch to the sinister effect generated in this anime. Melodious tunes would sway in the background, creating a wonderfully gloomy feel. Heck, this anime is worth watching for the atmosphere alone.

Thanks to Earth's proportionately high gravity, Terrans are more muscular than their slim Martian counterpartsand they're well endowed with a ruthless sense of superiority. To a hotheaded young pilot like Radium Lavans, star of the stand-alone original video animation Zone of the Enders: Idolo, his helplessness in the fact of Terran bullying is representative of Mars' own helplessness in the face of Earth's primacy.

The movie to Samurai X, opens with Kenshin in the Tokugawa era, dueling another samurai. I was immediately grabbed by this opening, it was dark, moody and had tense written all over it. It shows us how skillful Kenshin is, This flash back is key to the plot as it shows how much Kenshin has changed, yet his past comes back to haunt him.

Perfect Blue begins with a young pop idol, Mima, leaving the pop group CHAM. Pop idols don't make very much money in Japan and Mima wishes to pursue a career as an actress. Mima is fortunate to get a small role in a direct-to-video drama, "Double Bind". Pretty soon, however, she begins to receive signs that there may be a rather disgruntled fan who despises Mima's choice to leave the pop scene.
The biggest sell of this movie is that Hollywood actors were hired for the main characters. Elizabeth Berkley stars as Naomi Armitage and Keifer Sutherland plays the role of Ross Sylibus. In hindsight though, I don't think this was that great an idea. There were occasional moments when I got Saved By the Bell flashbacks when Armitage was speaking. Berkley tended to be rather inconsistent, sounding good in some situations, but "fake" in others. Keifer Sutherland had similar problems. On the whole, I'd say the voice acting was pretty much on par with the original series. It was passable, but not noteworthy.
