[Zebra Beadhead]
Pattern Illustration
Zebra Beadhead
Tied by Bill Brothers

Hook: Standard wet, straight shank, size #16 - 20
Thread: Black 8/0
Body: Thread
Rib: Silver wire, fine
Weight: Copper bead

Tying Instructions:

1. Mash barb on hook, slide bead on to shank.

2. Butt bead against hook eye, tie in thread behind bead.

3. Build a dam of thread behind the bead to prevent it from sliding backward.

4. Wrap thread to bend.

5. Lay fine wire along length of shank, tag pointing over hook bend.

6. Wrap thread to bead, securing wire, in tight, touching wraps. Increase taper as you approach bead. Counter wrap wire forward, tie off, secure and trim.

7. Half hitch thread twice, trim. Cement/finger nail polish length of body.

Notes: This fly also works well in other colors besides black. Lately orange has been working surprisingly well (Jan/Feb), I think it matches caddis larvae. Olive, red and brown are also good colors. This is one of my go-to flies when nothing is hatching.

This fly is an excellent searching pattern, which works well all year, but especially well from fall through spring. Fish the fly across and down dead drift, with an indicator or with a dry fly, as part of a two fly rig.
